TotK Recomp, the native PC port of Tears of the Kingdom

Unofficial guide · version 0.2.1 · checked October 31, 2026

TotK Recomp turns your own copy of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom into a native Windows (and now Linux) game. It is not an emulator: the game is recompiled on your PC, with 60 fps by default, ultrawide support and a settings menu.

Official download on GitHub How to install

0.2.1latest release (Oct 31)
1.2.1 / 1.4.3supported game updates
60–144fps limit options
36 GBfree space during setup

No game files are included. You need the base game and the 1.2.1 or 1.4.3 update, dumped from your own Switch, plus that console’s prod.keys. The developers will not explain how to obtain them, and this site will not either. The finished game folder is for your own use: do not share it.

What TotK Recomp does

The installer reads your game files, translates the game’s ARM64 code into C, compiles it into totk.exe, and prepares shaders ahead of time so the game does not stutter on them later. On a 24-core CPU the compile step takes about 3 minutes; the whole first setup is longer, and the 0.1.1 notes say to expect 30 minutes or more.

Project status

The developers call it early development: the game is playable on Windows, but visual bugs and crashes are still expected. The main developer tests on an AMD RX 9070. Bugs go to the official issue tracker; read the pinned known-issues post first and attach logs\totk.log.

According to the README, most of the code and documentation is written by AI coding agents under the maintainer’s direction, and the maintainer plays every build before merging.

FAQ

What is TotK Recomp?

TotK Recomp is an open-source fan project by valentderah that statically recompiles The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the Nintendo Switch into a native Windows x86-64 program with a Vulkan renderer. Since version 0.2.1 there is also a Linux build (AppImage) with Steam Deck defaults.

Is TotK Recomp an emulator?

No. An emulator like Ryujinx imitates the Switch while the game runs. TotK Recomp translates the game’s ARM64 code to C ahead of time and compiles it into totk.exe on your PC, then replaces the Switch system and graphics API with its own runtime.

Does TotK Recomp include the game?

No. The release contains only the installer and build tools. You need your own legally obtained copy of the game dumped from your own console: the base game plus the 1.2.1 or 1.4.3 update, and your console’s keys. The project does not explain how to get those files, and neither does this site.

Which game versions are supported?

The base game with update 1.2.1 or 1.4.3. Saves carry over between the two. Other updates are not supported.

Is TotK Recomp free?

Yes. It is a non-commercial project under the MIT License. The only official download is on the GitHub Releases page.

Can I play at 60 fps or higher?

Yes. 60 fps is the default. Limits of 90, 120, 144 or the monitor refresh rate are available but marked experimental.
