TotK Recomp on Steam Deck and Linux

Since version 0.2.1 (October 31, 2026) TotK Recomp also runs natively on Linux, with a setup shipped as an AppImage and default settings for the Steam Deck.

Very new. The Linux port’s author ran a full install on Arch Linux with a Radeon RX 7800 XT. The release notes say the 0.2.1 AppImage itself had not been run on Linux yet and nobody had tried a Steam Deck. Report results on the issue tracker.

Requirements on Linux

ItemRequirement
KernelLinux 6.7 or later
glibc2.34 or later (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 35, SteamOS 3)
GPUVulkan 1.3 driver with VK_EXT_external_memory_host (Mesa RADV on AMD)
CPUx86-64 with AVX2
Diskabout 36 GB free during setup

Installing

  1. On a Steam Deck, switch to Desktop Mode.
  2. Download TotK-Setup-x86_64.AppImage (about 220 MB) from the official Releases page.
  3. Make it executable (right-click → Properties → Permissions, or chmod +x) and start it.
  4. Pick your own game files, keys, language and an install folder (an SD card works). The game is totk in that folder.

Steam Deck defaults

On a Deck, settings you have not set yourself default to:

SettingDeck default
fullscreen1
window_size / output_res1280x800 (16:10, with a HUD laid out for it)
render_scalegame
vk_presentfifo (vsync)
fps_limit40

The developers call these starting points, not measured values. L3 + R3 cycles the performance overlay so you can check frame rates without a keyboard. Mesa’s shader cache is kept in mesa-cache next to the game.

FAQ

Does TotK Recomp run on Steam Deck?

Version 0.2.1 added a Linux AppImage and Steam Deck defaults (fullscreen, 1280x800, vsync, 40 fps limit). The release notes warn that nobody has tried it on a Deck yet, so treat it as experimental.

How do I run the AppImage on Steam Deck?

Switch to Desktop Mode, download TotK-Setup-x86_64.AppImage from the official Releases page, make it executable and start it. The setup builds the game into the folder you pick; the game is the file totk there.

Which Linux distributions work?

The setup needs glibc 2.34 or newer (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 35, SteamOS 3) and Linux 6.7 or later. The game itself needs only glibc, the system Vulkan loader and the bundled SDL3.

Can I install to the SD card?

Yes. The setup’s temp folder is created inside the install folder, because a Deck’s /home is often too full for the generated code while the game goes to the SD card.
