TotK Recomp settings and totk.ini
Press F1 in game for the settings menu, or edit totk.ini next to totk.exe. These are the settings most players change.
Frame rate
| totk.ini key | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
fps_limit | 60 | 30, 40, 45, 60, 90, 120, 144, any whole rate from 30 to 360, or display (monitor refresh rate). Above 60 is experimental. Changes take effect at once. |
realtime | 1 | Game speed follows the clock instead of the frame count. Needed above 60 fps. |
highfps_fix | 1 | Fix for physics that bounce at high frame rates. |
vk_present | mailbox | fifo = vsync, immediate = no vsync. |
Resolution and upscaling
| totk.ini key | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
output_res | 1920x1080 | Game resolution: the size the game draws its picture and HUD in (1280x720 to 7680x4320). Read at start. |
render_scale | game | 3D scene size relative to the game resolution. game = the game’s own 5/6 (1600x900 at 1080p); 25–400%, above 100 supersamples. |
upscaler / sharpness | fsr / 80 | Scaling to a larger window: AMD FSR 1 or bilinear, sharpening 0–100. |
window_size / fullscreen | 1920x1080 / 0 | Window size in real pixels (Windows scaling ignored). F11 toggles borderless fullscreen. |
aspect | fit | fit keeps the picture shape with black bars; stretch fills the window. |
gpu_name / gpu_index | first discrete GPU | Pick a GPU by part of its name (e.g. NVIDIA) or its index in the log. |
Ultrawide and 16:10 sizes with a proper HUD
The installer prepares HUD layouts for these ten sizes; the camera shows the wider or taller view and the HUD moves to the corners or edges:
| Shape | Sizes |
|---|---|
| 21:9 | 2560x1080, 3440x1440, 3840x1600, 5120x2160 |
| 32:9 | 3840x1080, 5120x1440 |
| 16:10 (Steam Deck) | 1280x800, 1680x1050, 1920x1200, 2560x1600 |
Low VRAM and problem GPUs
| Key (Advanced tab) | Use it when |
|---|---|
astc_bc = 1 | 4 GB of video memory or less: stores ASTC textures as BC3 at a quarter of the memory, slightly blockier. |
astc = cpu | The game closes a few seconds after the Nintendo logo on AMD RX 5000/6000 (log ends with vk: upload submit failed (-4) or vk: device fault). |
gpl = 0 | Graphics pipeline library is already off by default on AMD RDNA 1/2; try toggling if you see crashes. |
| Dynamic alpha to coverage | New in 0.2.1 for black characters on AMD RX 400 to RX 6000. |
Other useful keys
perf_overlay: off, fps or full. F10 or L3 + R3 cycles it.assume_focus = 1(default since 0.2.1): the game keeps running when you alt-tab. Set 0 to pause like the Switch Home button, but a load interrupted that way can freeze.locale/lang: game language, e.g.en-US,ja,zh-Hant.operation_mode: docked (default) or handheld.volume: 0–100 on top of the game’s own volume.device_profile: auto, desktop or deck.

FAQ
Where is the totk.ini file?
Next to totk.exe in your install folder. Every key is listed there as a commented default: remove the # at the start of a line to change it. The in-game menu (F1) writes the same file.
How do I unlock 120 or 144 fps?
Set the frame-rate limit in the F1 menu or fps_limit = 120 (or 144, or display) in totk.ini. Above 60 is experimental and needs realtime = 1, which is the default.
How do I play in ultrawide 21:9 or 32:9?
Pick a game resolution such as 3440x1440 or 5120x1440 in the menu, or set output_res. The installer prepares HUD layouts for ten sizes; any other size gets the wider camera but a stretched 16:9 HUD.
Why does my climbing jump go less far above 30 fps?
This is an open issue reported on GitHub. The highfps_fix key exists to fix physics that bounce at high frame rates; check the issue tracker for the current state.
Can an environment variable override totk.ini?
Yes. A TOTK_* variable with the same name, such as TOTK_FPS_LIMIT for fps_limit, overrides the file.
